Unfriendly

Just a thought:
I'm glad I was never even remotely tempted to have a Facebook account.

Too close to home

Finally after 10 days, I've got internet back. No thanks to relentless rain, my momentary cause for pleasure, that soon after unfolded into nightmare Ondoy for all Metro Manilans, particularly for a few people we know.

A lot has been written about it, but this, as my daughter related, hit way too close to home. A sister and her family are temporarily camped out at another sister's home as I speak. A few colleagues at work were unfortunately affected as well. The good thing about it is that they're all alive and no one got hurt.

There's little I can add to all that we have seen and heard these past few days. I can only observe that we have been through many, many disasters that have only caused to unify and bring out the best in people. That's the thing about Filipinos, which is also probably one reason why we're not even close to making it to this list.

We always like to say "May awa ang Dios" even through our darkest hours. Indeed, God is merciful, and we always have that to hold on to.

Making happy

Thanks to work, I have come to really, really appreciate the languid pleasures of a Saturday morning. It's dark and raining outside. I feel phenomenally slothful. I love it.

My bones are achy. I decided to forego my usual 50-minute hop on my elliptical trainer yesterday and took a run instead. I blame it on House for finally maxing out the 7am reruns that enabled me to watch and train without copping out from laziness and boredom.

Running is the challenge of the moment, and hopefully one of the verbs I will add to my profile someday. I have a pair of funky sea green camouflage running shoes and I'm all set. I'd do it right now except that it's raining.

I'll have to settle for pancakes, Lonely Planet reruns, laziness, relentless rain -- bliss. You wish you were here.
